2020 BMW Z4 Prices, Reviews, and Pictures

Overview

The BMW Z4 has been completely redesigned after a four year hiatus. It’s back and better than ever. Although the rear-wheel-drive two seat roadster is not as fast or enjoyable as the Porsche Boxster, it offers exceptional performance and is a pleasure to drive. The Z4’s base price is about $10,000 lower than that of the Boxster. The Z4 is now only available as a convertible. There is no coupe model. It is also BMW’s most affordable two-seater. The latest generation also has a simpler retractable hardtop that was replaced by a traditional folding softtop. However, the interior is quiet and seals well.

What’s new for 2020?

BMW only offered the Z4 sDrive30i last year, and this model will remain unchanged for 2020. The price is unchanged. The lineup now includes the more powerful 2020 BMW Z4 M40i. This model has been tuned by BMW’s legendary high-performance M Division. Both models can be turbocharged. However, the Z4 M40i comes with a six-cylinder engine while the 2020 Z4 sDrive30i comes with a four-cylinder.

The 2020 Z4 sDrive30i’s base price is unbeatable. It is significantly cheaper than the Porsche Boxster and offers plenty of performance for most buyers. The $2950 M Sport Kit can be customized to make it more sporty. It adds M Sport suspension for improved handling. Also, it gives it a sleeker look with an aerodynamic body kit. BMW also offers larger 19-inch wheels and tires. The Track Handling package adds M Sport brakes and an M Sport differential to increase traction. Although your new Z4 won’t be as fast as the M40i, it will still deliver a satisfying acceleration.

Performance, Transmission and Engine

Each 2020 BMW Z4 comes with an eight-speed automatic transmission that can be set in Sport or Manual modes. Standard equipment includes paddle shifters that are mounted to the steering wheel. This is the BMW Z4’s first release without a manual transmission and a clutch pedal. It’s hard to miss. It is one of the most powerful automatics on the market, with quick responses, smooth shifts and smooth operation. The brand’s turbocharged 2.0-liter four cylinder makes plenty of torque, and 255 horsepower. This model was able to accelerate to 60 mph in just 5.1 seconds during our testing. This is fast, but slower than the Porsche Boxster which can still be ordered with a manual gearbox. The new 2020 BMW Z4 M40i comes with a 382-hp twin turbocharged inline-6. The Z4 is a sporty car that’s extremely smooth and refined. It can go from 0-60 mph in 3.8 seconds. This is faster than the Porsche Boxster S with 350 horsepower.

Fuel Economy and Real World MPG

It may be surprising to learn that the 2020 BMW Z4 sports car is among the most efficient in fuel consumption. The Z4 sDrive30i’s fuel economy is 25 mpg in the city and 32 mpg highway, according to the EPA. The Z4 M40i’s higher horsepower means that the fuel economy is only one mpg better. It gets 24 mpg in the city and 31 on the highway. Both models achieved 20 mpg when mixed driving was tested. Both engines use more expensive premium gasoline and the Z4’s small gas tank means that it has a limited fuel range. Between each fill-up, expect to drive approximately 300 miles on the highway.

Interior, Comfort, & Cargo

The 2020 BMW Z4’s interior is of high quality, as it is with all BMWs. It may even have the best interior of this class. It boasts luxurious materials, excellent panel fitment and excellent control placement. The Z4’s dynamic dynamics are enhanced by the comfort of its seats, which have large bolsters that will keep you in place. Even for taller people, there is more space inside than you might think. It is thick and well insulated. The cloth roof seals tight. The BMW’s interior is quiet when the top is down. It is so quiet that it almost feels like a Grand Touring car. It folds down in seconds with a push of a button. Standard equipment includes a wind blocker to reduce wind buffeting, even at high speeds. The interior storage is very generous. The Z4’s cabin has several storage options, including one in its center console and one to the left of it’s steering wheel. A netted shelf is located behind the seats, and there are two large cupholders at the front. The 2019 BMW Z4’s trunk measures 10 cubic feet. However, it can hold luggage for up to two people for a weekend trip.

Connectivity and Infotainment

Standard features include navigation and free Apple CarPlay integration. Android Auto is not possible. With sharp graphics and an intuitive interface, the latest version of BMW’s iDrive is simple to use. You can control the system intuitively using buttons and knobs on the Z4’s console, or by speaking commands. Standard features include a USB port and Bluetooth streaming audio, but you will need to pay more for SiriusXM satellite. The Premium Package includes Wi-Fi hotspot, wireless charging for phones and a head-up display.
