2020 Buick Enclave Prices, Reviews, and Pictures

Overview

The Buick Enclave is a well-equipped, semi-luxurious family trucker that can be used on its own. The Buick Enclave’s premium pricing puts it up against true luxury offerings like BMW, Mercedes-Benz and Volvo. This dulls its shine. Although the Buick’s V-6 engine and pleasant driving style are both excellent, it shares a lot of its mechanical parts with the Chevrolet Traverse. Instead, the Enclave focuses on its cargo-friendly interior and its attractively curvy exterior styling.

What’s new for 2020?

Buick Enclave enters 2020 equipped with the optional Sport Touring package. The new appearance package is available only on the mid-range Essence trim. It includes a black mesh grille and a chrome-and-graphite 20 inch wheels. All Enclave models come with an updated infotainment software with an 8.0 inch display. High-definition backup is also available and 360-degree exterior cameras can be added. Avenir premium and high-end models offer more luxury, with a massage function for both the driver and front-seat passengers. There is also a four-way power-adjustable Lumbar Support. For a more sleek appearance, the Avenir gets a subtle facelift with lower body panels that have been painted instead of left in black plastic. The list now includes Rich Garnet metallic, Champagne Gold metallic, and Dark Moon Blue metalic.

The Avenir model is expensive, but it doesn’t offer the luxury we would expect from a premium SUV. We’d rather save our money and opt for the Essence. It’s a family-friendly vehicle that costs just over $43,000. This includes six USB ports, on-board WiFi, and perforated leather seats.

Towing, Engine, Transmission, Performance

Every Enclave has a 3.6-liter V-6 that produces 310 horsepower and drives either the front or all of the four wheels through a smooth-shifting, nine-speed automatic transmission. Although it’s not the fastest crossover, the Enclave is fast enough to avoid any anxiety while driving around town or merging onto highways. The engine does its job without disturbing the passengers. Buick also offers a Trailering package, which increases the Enclave’s towing capacity to 5000 pounds.

The Enclave’s suspension is well-damped, which helps to conceal its weight. However, it doesn’t feel as agile as the Audi Q7. It focuses on comfort and offers a luxurious ride that glides over uneven surfaces without registering any harsher impacts. The steering is well weighted and provides the right amount of feedback for a crossover.

Fuel Economy and Real World MPG

Although it’s unrealistic to expect economy-car fuel efficacy from a three-row Enclave, rivals like the Acura MDX and the Volvo XC90 simply outperform it in this class. The EPA ratings put these haulers in a heated competition. Our real-world highway fuel economy test route showed that our Enclave Avenir all-wheel-drive delivered 25 mpg.

Interior, Infotainment and Cargo

The Enclave’s interior is spacious as you would expect for a vehicle of this size. Buick also has many convenience and comfort features. The interior is beautiful and practical. However, it lacks the quality of materials and attention to detail that luxury-brand competitors have. Wood trim feels cheap and shabby. The sunshades for an optional panoramic roof don’t have power and the second-row passenger seat doesn’t slide forward, which is a clear cost-cutting move and compromises on convenience.

The Enclave’s standard IntelliLink touchscreen infotainment device is nestled between two asymmetrical vents. It is easy to use and has a beautiful layout with crisp graphics and a lot of features. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto come as standard. Users can also connect to the internet using an onboard Wi Fi hotspot that is powered by a 4G LTE connection. Optional navigation with real-time traffic and weather updates, as well as a wireless charging station for smartphones, is available. Each row has two USB ports to charge your devices.

The Enclave, which offers the largest storage area in all configurations, is the best option if cargo space is your primary concern. It was able to hold 38 bags with its seats down, and it can store five additional items behind its third row of power-operated seats.
