While SUVs and crossovers are often criticized for their bland designs, the 2022 Alfa Romeo Stelvio remains one of the most beautiful examples of this breed. Alfa Romeo’s compact luxury crossover is a beautiful body. It also has a fantastic chassis that is more communicative than an Italian lover. The engine is powered by a powerful turbo-four, which pairs well with a well-calibrated transaxle and rear- or all-wheel drive. The interior of the Stelvio is well-designed, with attractive wood trim and long column-mounted paddle shifters. However, there are some flaws in it, including a small cargo area and back seat. While the BMW X3 or Porsche Macan offer more comprehensive options, the 2022 Stelvio appeals to those who love style and driving pleasure.

What’s new for 2022?

Alfa Romeo has renamed the Ti Sport trim Veloce for 2022 and added a number of new standard features. This includes adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring and lane-departure alert, as well as lane-departure and parking sensors. An auto-dimming rearview visor, built-in navigation and front and rear heated seating are all now standard. All models now have dark exterior trim, including grille, roof rails and exhaust tips, as well as skid plates. Ti trims add a gray body kit to the model. Performance, Transmission and Engine

The Stelvio’s turbocharged 4-cylinder produces 280 horsepower through an 8-speed automatic transmission. The base model comes standard with rear-wheel drive, while the rest of the lineup can be ordered with all-wheel drive. While the engine was effortlessly quick in our testing and sounded great, the Stelvio’s sole setup–aside from the high-performance Quadrifoglio–eliminates choices for the buyer and limits towing to a maximum of 3000 pounds. We were impressed by its smooth power delivery and responsive throttle during daily driving. The raspy exhaust note was appropriate for this application and sounded enthusiastic. The Stelvio is a beautiful car with a great design. It also has a smooth ride and athletic handling. The 20-inch wheels of the Stelvio we tested gave enough isolation from bumps to be comfortable even with the largest tires. Although the Alfa’s cornering grip was comparable to other models, it is still the best when it comes to driving engagement. The chassis is also shared with the Giulia sedan and has a comfortable and composed damping. Although the Stelvio’s steering isn’t as sharp as the Giulia’s, its light effort and quick reflexes were still exceptional–especially for a crossover.

Fuel Economy and Real World MPG

The Stelvio’s highway range and real-world fuel economy are not remarkable, but they do compare with four-cylinder rivals. Rear-drive models are rated at 22 mpg in the city and 29 on the highway. All-wheel drive reduces the highway rating by 1 mpg. Our 75-mph highway fuel economy route was run by the Stelvio. It returned 26 mpg. We consider the Alfa’s unparalleled performance and unique personality to be a no-brainer. Interior, Comfort, & Cargo

The Stelvio sedan has a stylish interior, and offers a comfortable driving position. You can get sportier models with carbon-fiber trim. However, those who want a more elegant appearance can opt for wood inlays. The Stelvio’s supportive front seats are covered in leather, while handsome aluminum accents decorate the doors, dash and center console. Although the Stelvio is equipped with some clever storage options, the small cargo space behind the back seat makes it a less capacious crossover. We appreciated the handy smartphone slot that is located between the cupholders of the Alfa and the tray at the left knee. A handy removable tray is also located at the bottom of the center console.

Connectivity and Infotainment

Only one size is available for the infotainment system: 8.8 inches. It responds to touch inputs and also has a handy rotary controller that can be found on the center console. Standard features include built-in navigation, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto integration. The infotainment system was visually appealing, however, navigation alerts sometimes occurred too late, leading to missed turns. Using one of the two standard smartphone-integration interfaces for navigation solves this minor issue.
